Selena Gomez set to star in HBO Max’s new quarantine cooking show
Selena Gomez is going from Disney Channel to HBO.
HBO Max has ordered an untitled Selena Gomez cooking show straight to series. The 27-year-old “Lose You to Love Me” singer will star in 10 episodes where she improves upon her cooking skills.
Gomez is filming the entire series while she self-isolates. Despite being a multihyphenate, the premise is aware that the singer-songwriter-actress-producer isn’t a chef too. At least not yet.
“I’ve always been very vocal about my love of food,” Gomez said in a press release. “I think I’ve been asked hundreds of times in interviews if I had another career, what would I do. And I’ve answered that it would be fun to be a chef. I definitely don’t have the formal training, though! Like many of us while being home, I find myself cooking more and experimenting in the kitchen.”
The light-hearted series will use humor and practical advice to embrace the beauty and struggle of learning to cook at home. Each week a master chef joins Gomez remotely for the “unapologetically authentic cook-a-long.” They will share tips and tricks, prepare a variety of cuisines and handle Covid-19 related issues — like what to do when an ingredient is missing.
In addition to documenting Gomez’s culinary journey, the show will highlight a food-related charity every episode. The “untitled cooking project” is slated to air this summer.
