Announced at the Future Hospitality Summit in Dubai, the agreement marks a collaboration between Accor and Al Hilali Trading and Contracting Company.
The Handwritten Collection Al Baha is scheduled to open in 2027, offering 148 rooms and unique dining experiences in a stunning mountainous setting.
The Handwritten Collection, founded in January 2023, is rapidly growing, with over 15 properties already operating and more than 25 in development.
This curated portfolio aims to offer authentic, characterful hotels under an international brand, each embodying the essence of stylish and inviting homes. The collection is designed for 'Human Connectors' - travellers seeking immersive experiences.
The signing event was attended by prominent executives, including Duncan O’Rourke, CEO of Accor’s premium, midscale and economy division for the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific; and Mansoor Abdullah Hussein Al Hilali, founder and chairman of Al Hilali Trading and Contracting Company.
The Handwritten Collection Al Baha will be located on the outskirts of Al Baha City, perched on a clifftop with breathtaking views over the Red Sea coast.
The brand is set to open its first Middle East address this October in Istanbul, Turkey. The Levni Istanbul Hotel - Handwritten Collection Türkiye will feature 72 rooms and draw design inspiration from the Ottoman Empire's "Tulip Era", celebrating local art and culture.
Other properties in the region include Hotel Andalucia Maputo – Handwritten Collection, slated to open in 2026 in Mozambique’s capital. This boutique hotel, with origins dating back to the Portuguese colonial period, will undergo renovation to join the Handwritten Collection, showcasing contemporary design and local materials.
Introducing the new brand to the region, Accor Premium, Midscale & Economy brands global chief development officer Camil Yazbeck said: “We designed the Handwritten Collection to support the growing number of independent hotels in the midscale segment who are keen to leverage the powerful benefits of a leading global hotel group while retaining the unique character they have curated.
"We are very pleased with the extremely positive response to Handwritten Collection from owners and partners in our first year, and we look forward to exploring many more new opportunities for the Handwritten Collection globally.”
Accor Middle East and Africa premium, midscale and economy brands chief operating officer Paul Stevens said: “The launch of the Handwritten Collection showcases Accor’s commitment to growth within the collection and boutique segments, an exciting market in the industry, which allows for more unique and personalised experiences.
