JPM's Dimon on Chauvin verdict 'Justice was served. It is the beginning of a long path to fix some of these things'

JPMorgan Chase (JPM) CEO Jamie Dimon says "justice was served" following the guilty verdict against former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd last year.

“We've always said that after the murder of George Floyd and COVID it pointed out things we already knew — that we haven’t solved this racial inequality problem for hundreds of years. In fact, in some decades it has gone backwards," Dimon said on a client webcast, according to a transcript obtained by Yahoo Finance.

On Tuesday, Chauvin was found guilty on all three charges: second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.

"it is the beginning of a long path to fix some of these things," Dimon said.

To be sure, Dimon, who often shares bullish messages on the U.S. said in his view, "America is a shining light on a hill."

"It’s an unbelievable country. It was founded on principles on freedom — freedom of enterprise, freedom of speech, freedom of religion. It does not mean we don’t have some flaws. And so, we should acknowledge those flaws and get to work and try to fix them.”

Dimon went on to tout some of the bank's work as part of its $30 billion commitment to advance racial equality, from access to affordable housing to helping minority entrepreneurs.

“We just want to go a long way to do our part to fix it, so yeah, we’re devoted to it," the CEO added.
