On Thursday, former president Donald Trump celebrated the 16th anniversary of Satoshi Nakamoto’s bitcoin white paper, first published October 31, 2008, by reaffirming his commitment to championing the world’s largest cryptocurrency and supporting the politically influential community that has poured millions into his presidential campaign.

“I would like to wish our great Bitcoiners a Happy 16th Anniversary of Satoshi’s White Paper,” Trump posted on Twitter, now known as X. “We will end Kamala’s war on crypto, & Bitcoin will be MADE IN THE USA! VOTE TRUMP!”

While headlining the Bitcoin Conference in Nashville earlier this year, Trump pledged to transform the U.S. into the world’s “crypto capital,” remove U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission chair Gary Gensler, and free drug marketplace Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht.

Trump’s social media post included the hashtag #FreeRossDayOne, reconfirming his promise to extricate Ulbricht from prison on the first day of his presidency—a long-sought goal requested by the broader crypto community.

On the crypto prediction market platform Polymarket, which is off-limits to U.S. users, more than $1.48 billion has been spent on Trump’s odds of winning the election. Users have forecast a 60% chance of Trump taking the White House. The site, which accepts bets in crypto, skews overwhelmingly male and pro-Trump, but it has accurately predicted other events in the past, such as President Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the 2024 presidential contest.

With the election just days away, crypto voters are expected to play a crucial role. Almost half of U.S. voters see pro-crypto policies as significant when looking at potential candidates, and 92% of crypto investors plan to vote this election cycle, reflecting their potential to sway tight races in key battleground states like Pennsylvania and Nevada.
