UnitedHealthcare has announced an expansion of its Individual & Family Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace plans to 30 US states, including new coverage areas in Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming.

This growth also extends to additional counties in 13 other states, increasing the company's footprint to more than 1,250 counties. The open enrolment period for these plans runs from 1 November 2024 through 15 January 2025.

With this expansion, UnitedHealthcare aims to make affordable health benefits more accessible, especially to those who may not qualify for other types of coverage.

This year, a significant portion of UnitedHealthcare's plan members received subsidies, with over half paying $0 in monthly premiums, stated the company.

These plans are crucial in offering diverse options to individuals without access to employer-funded coverage, Medicaid, Medicare or the Children's Health Insurance Programme (CHIP).

UnitedHealthcare Individual & Family Plans CEO Marcus Robinson said: “UnitedHealthcare’s plans are designed to help more individuals and families access affordable coverage options that include a wide range of benefits, cost transparency and predictability, and a simple enrolment and member service experience in both English and Spanish.”

UnitedHealthcare's plan includes benefits such as $0 medical deductibles, adult dental and vision coverage, predictable copays, low-cost prescriptions, and $0 virtual urgent care.

Members can also receive up to $150 in rewards for completing health-related tasks and have access to discounted gym memberships through One Pass Select.

The company provides support in both English and Spanish, ensuring easy access to essential services through its website and mobile app.

UnitedHealthcare is part of UnitedHealth Group, a diversified healthcare company that offers a wide range of health benefit programmes.

Last December, UnitedHealth Group agreed to sell its Brazilian health insurer Amil to businessman Jose Seripieri Filho, reported Reuters.
