Corporate insiders have simply not endorsed the stock rally of 2024, and the current weekly data from Vickers Stock Research does nothing to change that. To be clear, they have not cashed out -- but neither have they bought in. This week, the trend is consistent, with the major sentiment benchmarks from Vickers all in the 'slightly weaker but still solidly neutral' camp. The overall Insider Index has weakened slightly, as have the Total Eight-Week Sell/Buy Ratio, the NYSE Eight-Week Sell/Buy Ratio, and the Nasdaq Eight-Week Sell/Buy Ratio. But at 4.16, 5.05, and 3.81, respectively, none are into the bearish-sentiment zone. With earnings season now underway and insiders broadly restricted from trading, we don't expect any meaningful change in insider sentiment for several weeks, at best. On a sector basis, insider buying outpaced selling in the Consumer Discretionary sector by a factor of 1.5-times, with shares valued at roughly $89 million bought versus nearly $60 million sold. Conversely, selling by insiders was particularly notable in Financials, with shares valued at $562 million sold. Selling was also evident in Information Technology and Industrials. This week, analysts at Vickers highlighted insider transactions of interest at Sirius XM Holdings Inc. (NGS: SIRI) and Bank of America Corp. (NYSE: BAC).
