The August jobs report fell short of expectations, with the economy adding 142,000 jobs. Yahoo Finance healthcare reporter Anjalee Khemlani and housing reporter Dani Romero join Morning Brief to provide a sector-by-sector breakdown of the report.
The construction sector showed strength, adding 34,000 jobs in August. Within this sector, heavy and civil engineering contributed 14,000 new positions. Non-residential construction jobs saw increased additions, likely boosted by the bipartisan Infrastructure and Investment Jobs Act. However, residential construction showed softness, reflecting ongoing weakness in the housing market.
The healthcare sector added 31,000 jobs, which is about half of its normal monthly gains. Ambulatory care led the sector's growth with 24,000 new jobs, while hospitals added 10,000 positions.
