The ongoing Boeing (BA) strike has cost an estimated $9.66 billion in combined losses, according to calculations from the Anderson Economic Group. Anderson Economic Group CEO Patrick Anderson joins Asking for a Trend Host Josh Lipton to break down the figure, which he says makes the Boeing strike the most costly of 2024.
Anderson explains the firm considers new wages, losses to suppliers, data from previous strikes, and other factors when calculating its estimates.
He says “In this particular case, you see Boeing losing quite a bit. The biggest single chunk here is loss earnings for Boeing, which we're estimating at $5.5 billion — that's loss earnings flowing through to their shareholders. And that $5.5 billion is the main reason why they're out there looking for [$19 billion more] because they need the capital in order to operate their company, with this strike continuing now into the seventh week.”
Boeing has announced plans for a $19 billion share sale in an effort to maintain its credit rating.
