Kamala Harris spoke about her economic proposals, coined the "Opportunity Economy," during her recent speech at the Democratic National Convention. On the latest episode of Capitol Gains, Yahoo Finance Washington Correspondent Ben Werschkul breaks down the plans with host Rachelle Akuffo and Senior Columnist Rick Newman.
Werschkul sees the Opportunity Economy in two parts: "the headline stuff that's popular, but maybe doesn't make sense economically" and the policies that will "be a priority for next year no matter what." He puts proposals to fight price gouging, eliminate taxes on tips, and provide a $25,000 credit for housing under the first category, noting that "the idea of a tax credit for home builders to build first-time homes is interesting. I don't know how that works." However, he thinks the government can and will act on other parts of Harris's economic proposals, including the child tax credit and policies around prescription drug pricing.
