Index funds are gaining favor among millenial investors compared to all other age groups, a FTSE Russell US Wealth survey found. FTSE Russell’s head of buy-side Americas Ryan Sullivan joins Wealth Host Brad Smith to break down the survey's finding and what it says about investment strategies across generations.
"There's some interesting findings here when it comes to millennials in particular, especially as they're they're looking at a longer term time horizon and thinking of bringing in either ETFs or other index based funds to their portfolio," Sullivan says. "It's become evident in our findings, 30% looking at those index funds as that jumping off point in the best way to achieve those long term goals, and also millennials plan to increase their exposure to index funds ahead of other generations, like Gen X and the baby boomers as well."
He adds that lower fees and portfolio diversification are top of mind for the investors surveyed, while about a third prioritize values based investing.
